Are you more of a “go with your gut” or a “stick to logic” type of person? If you lean towards trusting your intuition, it turns out that your hunches may be more than just guesses pulled out of nowhere. Then again, you probably already had a feeling that was the case, didn’t you?
Your Spidey Senses Are Tingling
Our impulses are often quick decisions we make based on emotion. Maybe there’s no evidence pointing you toward a certain decision, but you choose it anyway because it feels right. Or maybe you meet a new person, and something about them bugs you, but you can’t quite put your finger on what it is. That’s intuition at its finest. However, while it’s important to take time to think things through in some cases, even science now agrees that your intuition may be more trustworthy than meets the eye. Cool, right?
The Proof of Intuition
A study from the University of New South Wales revealed that unconscious information tied to our emotions can increase our accuracy and speed in making otherwise impersonal decisions. The researchers did the study by showing students a group of dots on a screen, having the students decide what direction the dots were moving. To accompany the dots in part of the experiment, the researchers flashed pictures on the opposite side of the screen, which were too quick for the eyes to pinpoint. Some of the pictures were associated with happy feelings, while others were associated with negative feelings.
Even though the students couldn’t fully see the pictures, those who saw the photos unconsciously generally made more confident — and more correct — decisions. The researchers noted that the students’ intuition improved as time went by. Meaning, the more you use your gifts of insight, the better you get at it. It is just one more reason to listen to those vibes that soul is sending to you.
It’s another great mystery that’s one more step toward being better understood. So the next time you’re struggling with a choice, what will your intuition tell you? It’s okay to trust yourself, because no one knows you better than you. Share your stories with us below about the times you listened to your gut and are glad you did!
