There’s something invaluable about the experience of human connection. We exist to learn, love, and feel joy with the people closest to us. Having a healthy, happy spirit means having a spiritual connection with not only yourself, but also those around you. Connecting to your world and your loved ones spiritually can spark feelings of empathy, understanding, and closeness.
Learning Spiritually Through Connections
One way to become more spiritually connected is through learning about those in your life. Even more important than that is showing a willingness to learn by asking questions, accepting change, and making an effort to understand the differences between people. Having an eagerness to seek out new knowledge means you realize you don’t have all the answers, and that’s a kind of wisdom all its own.
Use Your Imagination
More specifically, imagine being someone (or something) else. Ask yourself questions like, “What would it be like to be in this person’s shoes?” or “How would I handle this situation?” This wakens the part of you that is emphatic. One way to get in touch with the spirits around you is through trying to understand not only motivations and desires, but also their state of being. You could just as simply go outside and imagine what it would be like to be that tree standing on the corner, or the ant crawling over your shoe. Perhaps they aren’t so different as you might think.
Build and Extend Trust
Honesty of the heart isn’t always easy to find, but the most successful relationships use it. Not only is it spiritually healthy for you to express honesty to the people in your life, but it also helps if you can expect the same from them. This doesn’t mean you need to spill all your personal details to everyone you meet or blindly do what they tell you, of course. It just means giving people the benefit of the doubt and looking for the best in them. Building trust strengthens emotional bonds.
Meditate for Love
You can also use meditation to form spiritual connections. Meditation is a practice you can use to clear your mind, be still, and reduce stress. Through relaxation, it’s possible for you to let go of your day to day worries for a while and become part of the universe, rather than just living in it. The great thing about meditating is that you can do it just about anywhere or any time that makes you feel comfortable.
The world can become so much bigger and brighter when we step outside our own bubble and feel things, not just with our fingertips, but with our very souls. We become vulnerable when we’re close to others, but that’s how we learn. That’s how we grow. That’s how we strengthen the spirit.
